Professional haunted houses have kept gaining popularity, especially over the past couple of decades. Theme parks dedicate after hours for the entire month of October to haunted houses. Old stores and warehouses are transformed into gory scare zones. While there are many haunted houses in the Cleveland area to choose from now, you only had a few options in the past. Let’s creep back to 1991 and see where we could get our scares that October in Cleveland! Here’s five Vintage Cleveland Haunted Houses.

Making claim to being the biggest, best, and scariest is the North Ridgeville Haunted House and Cemetery. 25 rooms of terror in Ridgeview Shopping Center! 38919 Center Ridge road featured a indoor waiting area with plenty of space, with a total footprint of 22,500 square feet. Admission was $4.00, with children 11 and under being $3.00.

Nightmare in Painesville ran for many years! in 1991 horror seekers went through three monstrous haunted houses. The Crypt of Lost Souls, The Treasure Tomb, and and The Boo Barn. A haunted house package was available that included a ticket to United Skates roller rink and a $7.00 ride pass that granted unlimited carnival ride and trips through the fun house. Nightmare in Painesville was located at the Lake County Fairgrounds, Route 20 in Painesville, Ohio.

Our next Vintage Cleveland Haunted Houses stop is the Haunted Laboratory and the Haunted School House. What is it? 7 floors of horror! The Haunted Laboratory was 4 floors and the Haunted School House another three! $5.00 per house. On Friday, October 25 1991, Big Chuck and Little John were making an appearance! 1300 Triplett Blvd, Akron, Ohio. This house is still operational.

Slither over to 5100 Pearl Road in Cleveland and you could experience Ohio’s only haunted house with a live poisonous reptile exhibit! Over 22 rooms and 8,000 square feet of terror. 1991 was Cleveland’s Haunted Hollow’s 10th year of haunting. For adults admission was $4.50, under 48″ was $2.50. This included the Slide to Hell and crossing the suspended bridge of death! On Fridays, WMMS Nite out with Matt the Cat was entertaining. This haunted house benefited the Comic Relief Fund.

Go five for five and visit the 1991 Hudson Haunted House, run by the Hudson Jaycees. Admission was $4.50 and the house was located at Barlow road in Hudson, Ohio. This house was so scary, it was being advertised as award winning. The Hudson Haunted House is still open in 2024.
